Beginnings

Central Lutheran Church came into being in 1926, one of the first multi-ethnic mergers in U.S. Lutheran history, and reputedly the first to include Swedish, Norwegian and German Lutheran congregations.  St. Luke's and Emmanuel Lutheran Churches sold their buildings and the new congregation met in Holy Trinity's 1917 building at Sixth and Chestnut Avenues.  The photo below is of the new congregation at its foundation.

In 1951 the growing congregation moved to its present location at Sixteenth and West Yakima Avenues.
