You will be responsible for planning, directing, coordinating and, when appropriate, leading a program emphasizing building relationships between youth members, and also between youth and other generations in Central Lutheran congregation. Encourage youth participation in all areas of congregational life, using their God-given gifts for the good of all. Encourage growth in servanthood and discipleship.
Responsibilities
Coordinate and participate in activities and programs for K-12 youth.
· Encourage and recruit volunteer adults to work in various aspects of the youth program.
· Contact families of youth who are worship visitors or Sunday School or youth group guests at Central Lutheran Church. Introduce yourself and the program
· Coordinate and participate in leading retreats for confirmation students and high school youth. Establish the calendar in consultation with the pastors and Youth and Family Ministry Committee.
· Coordinate or teach the high school youth class during Sunday School.
· Coordinate youth participation in Cluster, Synod, Region, Churchwide and Youth Encounter youth gatherings.
· Maintain regular written, electronic or telephone contact with all youth between grades 6 and 12. Write announcements and reports for the newsletter, the Messenger.
· Spend a week at camp with youth from Central Lutheran Church, working with the camp program.
· Work with the integrated confirmation-youth group program.
· Lead weekly Bible studies, Youth Group or other activities for high school youth during the school year.
· Plan and lead events which will be attractive to the appropriate age group.
· Participate visibly in worship with the congregation and be available for conversations during fellowship times, except when schedules conflict.
· Be responsible for Sunday School and Confirmation openings, etc.
· Connect with the lives of youth at home and at school.
Coordinate family ministry in the congregation.
· Coordinate fellowship and recreational trips and events.
· Coordinate servant events such as Habitat for Humanity projects, elderly member outreach, food bank, etc.
· Plan and participate in family-friendly congregational events, working with appropriate committees and groups.
Partnership and Accountability
Work cooperatively with staff and lay leaders; participate in staff meetings and congregational council and appropriate committee meetings.
· On a day-to-day basis, you are responsible to the pastors.
· Attend weekly staff meetings.
· Meet at least monthly with the pastors.
· Review your work with the committee responsible for youth and family ministry and pastors every six months.
· Attend meetings of the Staff Support Committee when staff members are included.
· Participate in continuing education events and a support group of colleagues, if available.
The first twelve months will be a probationary period, with a review after six and after twelve months.
